Dragon Seal
Huailai County, Hebei, China
Dragon Seal Wines Company traces its roots back to 1910 with the establishment
of the Shangyi Winery in Beijing by French missionaries. During the 1950s, the
winery was nationalized and renamed Beijing Winery.
In 1987, Dragon Seal Wines Company was formed as part of a collaborative effort
with Pernod Ricard of France. Upon the recommendations of a team of French
viticulturists, new vineyards were established in Huailai County, Hebei Province,
with cuttings imported from the Bordeaux and Burgundy regions of France. At the
same time, stainless steel tanks, pressing machines, pipes, pumps and filters were
also imported. In 2001, Dragon Seal Wines Company became a wholly, state-owned
enterprise under the control of Beijing First Light Industry Corporation.
Today, production at Dragon Seal Wines Company is supervised by oenologist Jérôme Sabaté, a third generation winemaker from France, along with two Chinese
oenologists both of whom trained in France.
